Premier Mark McGowan and Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson have officially opened Newman’s brand new state-of-the-art hospital.

The $61.4 million purpose-built facility was specially designed to act as a one-stop shop for the local community and includes a new emergency department, inpatient beds, emergency and treatment bays, a dedicated medical centre, consultation spaces and a dental clinic with space for two dental chairs.

The highly anticipated project, which has been supported by a $15 million contribution from BHP, will be opened in stages to ensure the community can benefit from the new and improved services as soon as possible.

External works, including additional car bays and landscaping, round out the redevelopment.

In line with the State Government’s commitment to establishing health services that are culturally welcoming, the new regional hospital also features a series of artworks created by local artists that focus on the concept of storytelling, incorporating themes of culture, mining and pastoralism.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“We listened when the Newman community told us they needed a more modern and fit-for-purpose hospital, and I am proud that my Government has delivered on its commitment to them.

“This brand new $61.4 million facility is state-of-the-art and shows what we can achieve when community, government and the private sector work together.

“With support from BHP, we’ve been able to ensure that Newman and surrounds have access to a gold standard facility, with care delivered by some of WA’s best and brightest clinicians.”

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“We are committed to delivering world-class healthcare to communities across our vast State, and I am proud we’ve been able to deliver that in Newman with our brand new $61.4 million hospital.

“The new hospital delivers a suite of care options for patients under one roof which will modernise the way in which healthcare is delivered in Newman.

“Local artwork has also been installed throughout the site focused on storytelling. The works incorporate themes of culture, mining and pastoralism and have been designed to provide a culturally safe and welcoming facility.”

As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:

“This brand new state-of-the-art hospital is a gamechanger for the Pilbara region.

“It is also a one-stop-shop to support the health and wellbeing of our community, which will benefit from improved services for years to come.”
