Hume City Council is improving the communication channels across its diverse communities with the development of a dedicated advisory group.

The new ‘Multicultural Communications Advisory Group’ will work closely with Council to guide us on how to effectively speak with our many varied community groups, considering their cultural preferences and sensitivities.

The initiative will allow representatives from a number of backgrounds to advocate for the needs and wants of their peers, ensuring they have the same access to information and Council services, programs and events.

The initiative supports Hume City Council’s commitment to ensuring all members of our community have the same access to information, as well as services, programs and events.

The Multicultural Communications Advisory Group will be made up of 11 members, one from each of the language communities that will most benefit from communications support.

This includes Arabic, Assyrian, Farsi, Greek, Italian, Mandarin, Nepali, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu and Vietnamese.

Hume City Council is now seeking Expressions of Interest from locals to join the Multicultural Communications Advisory Group. Locals from the above-mentioned groups that speak and read the language fluently will be considered, with an annual fee paid to those who participate.

People passionate about supporting their community by joining the Multicultural Communications Advisory Group can find out more here and fill out an application form.
