New aircon to keep Trundle cool

A Federal Liberal and Nationals Government grant of $10,475 for the War Memorial Hall in Trundle will invest in the longevity of a much-loved venue, supporting community events across the Central West.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development and Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack said the funding was provided under the Stronger Communities Programme, which invests in projects that will invigorate the regions and ensure their continued success.

“Community groups contribute so much to our local community, making them better places to live, work and raise a family,” Mr McCormack said.

“These grants are designed to fund small capital projects and strengthen community ties across Australia, which is why we have allocated this funding here in Trundle.

“The Trundle War Memorial Hall, while a pillar of the community, lacks both heating and cooling – the installation of air-conditioning will help climate control and get more people involved in community events.

“From its original purpose as a memorial to the town’s First World War servicemen to the site of the annual ABBA Festival each May, this Hall, which hosts 3,000 people every year, is the heart of the Trundle community.”

Spokesman for Trundle War Memorial Hall Committee Andrew Rawsthorne said the upgrade would make a big difference, with the installation of air-conditioning and heating the hall committee’s number one priority.

“We notice hall bookings crash during the summer months because of the heat and this will allow a lot more use of the hall, which is good for the hall and good for the community,” Mr Rawsthorne said.

“The hall plays a big role in bringing people together, especially at times such as this when it’s a bit hard. It’s something which is very special and very dear to the community.”

The Federal Liberal and Nationals Government is contributing $10,475 toward the $50,475 project.
