Penrith City Council has officially opened the new amenities building at Doug Rennie Field, Kingswood.
The new amenities building features two universal change rooms designed to be inclusive for a range of users, as well as a change room for officials, first aid/administration room, canteen area, storage facilities and accessible toilets. Landscaping works were also completed onsite including seating, footpaths, shelters and tree planting to enhance the participant and visitor experience.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the completion of Doug Rennie Field amenities building marks another major milestone in the renewal of Chapman Gardens by Penrith City Council.
“Since 2021, Council has upgraded a range of facilities across Chapman Gardens with a total investment of $3.6m from all levels of Government,” Cr Carney said.
“From outdoor fitness equipment, new baseball diamond fencing and seating, new irrigation systems, as well as amenities buildings at Chapman Gardens Baseball Fields and now here at Doug Rennie Field.
It’s part of our commitment to providing high quality facilities to local sporting groups and residents.
“Council thanks both the NSW Government and Australian Government for their support in funding this project which will greatly benefit the Kingswood community.”
This project was proudly co-funded by Penrith City Council ($750,000), the NSW Government ($750,000) and the Australian Government ($500,000).
“The Albanese Government is pleased to have supported these new facilities that will make it easier for locals to get involved in sport and physical activity,” Senator Tony Sheldon said.
“Sport brings communities together and builds resilience and teamwork. We want all Australians to have access to the facilities and support they need to participate in the sports they love.”
Minster for Sport Steve Kamper MP said the project shows the NSW Government’s commitment to providing fit-for-purpose infrastructure in communities that need it most.
“The NSW Government understands the critical need to create spaces and places that enable communities to keep healthy, active and connected by participating in sport from the grassroots and beyond.”
“By improving the quality and quantity of sporting infrastructure, projects like the new amenities building at Doug Rennie Field ensure everyone in the local community has the opportunity and support they need to take part.”
Member for Penrith Karen McKeown OAM MP said, “This project is a fitting example of what can be achieved with all levels of Government working together for great community outcomes.”
This project was identified through Council’s Sport and Recreation Strategy, which is a 15-year road map for the future provision of sport, play, recreation and open space across the City.
