New appointment to Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission

The Defence and veteran community will be well served by the appointment of Major General Wade Stothart, DSC, AM, CSC to the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission.

The appointment follows his promotion from Brigadier and his appointment as Head of People Capability in the Australian Defence Force.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel Andrew Gee said there are few better placed to help shape Australia’s veteran support system than Major General Stothart.

“Major General Stothart has served the nation with distinction over his 35 year military career, including as the country’s first Director General of the Joint Transition Authority,” Minister Gee said.

“His work in standing up and developing the capability of the Joint Transition Authority has been critical in better preparing and supporting Defence members and their families as they transition from military to civilian life.

“He has an impressive record and brings significant experience and knowledge of military service that will prove invaluable to the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission’s work supporting our Defence and veteran communities.

“Major General Stothart has served in Afghanistan, East Timor and Bosnia, amongst others, and his service continues today.

“I congratulate him on his promotion to Major General and am confident he will do an outstanding job in his new roles.

Major General Stothart will stand aside as Director General of the Joint Transition Authority to fulfil his new roles as Head of People Capability and the Defence member of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission. Air Commodore Kaarin Kooij has been appointed as the new Director General of the Joint Transition Authority.

Major General Stothart replaces Major General Natasha Fox AM CSC who is standing aside from the Commission after three years, following her appointment as Deputy Chief of Army, commencing in January 2022.

“I would like to thank Major General Fox for her excellent and committed service to the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission over the last three years,” Minister Gee said.

“I congratulate her on her appointment to Deputy Chief of Army and I know her decades of experience will continue to serve the Army and its personnel well. I look forward to working closely with her in this important new role.”
