The long-standing partnership between Logan City Council and the Queensland Police Service (QPS) was further cemented today with the unveiling of a new crime-fighting vehicle.
Logan City Council Director of Community Services Katie Barton-Harvey said Council had purchased a four-seater All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for use by officers at the Jimboomba Police Station.
Ms Barton-Harvey said the vehicle was the seventh ATV purchased with Council funding for use by QPS officers throughout the City of Logan.
Ms Barton-Harvey said Council often collaborated with the QPS to deliver local community safety and crime-prevention initiatives.
“The ATV program is one example of how we have been supporting our local police to help them patrol our city,” she said.
“These off-road vehicles allow officers to patrol areas not accessible by regular police vehicles.
“This will lead to more proactive patrols of parks and bushland throughout the Jimboomba Policing Division.”
Jimboomba Police Station Officer-in-Charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said the important partnership between QPS and Council was working toward a common goal.
“We are reducing crime, enhancing safety and helping people feel a greater sense of connectivity to their community,” Snr Sgt Waugh said.
“While registered for use on roadways, the ATVs allow local police to patrol pedestrian access ways, parks, shopping centre perimeters and general public spaces.
“ATVs allow us to maintain a high-visibility policing presence in areas previously out of reach due to the nature of the terrain.”
