New Bill paying super to all part-time workers is an important step for gender equity but more needs to be done Article

The introduction today of a Morrison Government Bill making sure all part time workers are paid super is a welcome first step towards bridging the gender super gap.

The legislation will abolish the outdated $450 threshold, which meant hundreds of thousands of lower paid workers received no super if they earned less than that figure a month.

Importantly this reform will give 200,000 women on lower incomes a much-needed super boost. About 60% of those impacted by the $450 threshold are women.

But to further reduce the gender savings gap the government should now pay super on its paid parental leave scheme.
