The Federal and State Governments are focused on delivering our plan to build a better health system for all Tasmanians.

A new state-of-the-art CT scanner at the W.P. Holman Clinic in Launceston has now been installed, representing $1.4 million of investment and providing clinicians with new equipment to help design the best and most precise treatment plan, improving patient outcomes.

Federal Liberal Member for Bass, Bridget Archer MP welcomed the arrival of the new cancer fighting equipment.

“This CT scanner will make a real difference to both clinicians at the W. P. Holman Clinic and the patients receiving treatment.

“Importantly, this new scanner will help to provide treatment for over 600 new patients every year.”

“I am delighted that through the effective collaboration between State and Federal Governments, we are able to provide more of the modern equipment our world-class clinicians need to treat hundreds of patients every year.” Mrs Archer said.

Minister for Health, Sarah Courtney, was also pleased to view the new equipment and is looking forward to the arrival of two new Linear Accelerators in coming months.

“We will be installing new Linear Accelerators in Launceston and Hobart, which will give locals living with cancer access to the best technology available.” Ms Courtney said.

“There is no doubt that patients attending the W. P. Holman Clinic receive amazing care from our highly skilled clinicians and support staff, and I am so pleased to be able to support them with this new equipment.”

The CT scanner is the first piece of equipment delivered through the State and Federal Government’s Commonwealth Radiation Oncology Health Program Grants announced last year. Overall, $28 million is being invested in upgrading the state’s ageing oncology equipment.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government and the Federal Government are committed to improving health outcomes for all Tasmanians and these investments will go a long way to making life easier for both staff and patients.
