New case of COVID in NW Tasmania

Tasmanian Labor
  • COVID case highlights concerns about border protection
  • Government must outline plan to manage new outbreaks
  • Community sacrifice must not be in vain
  • News of a new case of COVID-19 in Tasmania reinforces Labor’s calls for government to tighten loopholes in Tasmania’s COVID-19 protections.

Shadow Minister for Health Sarah Lovell said it’s a timely reminder that COVID-19 remains a constant threat.

“Tasmanians need to be reassured that as a state we have learned the lessons from the last outbreak in the state’s North West.

“The potential has always been there for Tasmania to get new cases of COVID-19, and our protections are only as good as the weakest link in the chain.

“Labor calls on the government to follow the recommendations of the Premier’s own Social and Economic Advisory Council and explain to Tasmanians what its plan is to manage a new outbreak of COVID-19 in the state.

“Tasmanians have worked hard to get to where we are and we can’t afford for those sacrifices to be for nothing.”
