New CCTV cameras to be installed in griffiths CBD

Griffith City Council has announced the installation of 48 new CCTV cameras in Banna Avenue, which will increase the number of cameras in the main CBD to a total of 77.

Additionally, 19 CCTV cameras have been installed in City Park. These cameras were funded through the Safer Communities Fund Round 5 provided by the Commonwealth Government, which aims to support local communities to address crime and antisocial behaviour.

The new CCTV cameras will provide significant safety benefits for residents and visitors to the area. The cameras will be monitored by the Griffith Police Station and can be viewed in real-time or used to extract footage if required.

Griffith Mayor Doug Curran spoke about the importance of the installation of these cameras, stating, “The safety of our residents and visitors to our city is our top priority. These new cameras will not only help deter crime but will also assist the police in their investigations and provide valuable evidence in the event of an incident.”

In addition to the safety benefits, the CCTV cameras will also provide other benefits for the CBD. They will act as a deterrent for anti-social behaviour and will help reduce instances of vandalism and graffiti, helping to keep the area clean and well-maintained.

The new CCTV cameras have been installed in strategic locations throughout Banna Avenue, including at intersections and high-traffic areas. The cameras are equipped with high-resolution lenses and are capable of recording 24/7, ensuring that every angle of the area is covered.

The City Park cameras have also been installed in strategic locations throughout the park, including near the playground and BBQ facilities, ensuring the safety and security of families and visitors.

The installation of these new CCTV cameras is a significant investment in the safety and security of Griffith’s CBD, and it demonstrates Council’s commitment to making Griffith a safe and welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.
