New Chief Executive for EPA announced

The Governing Board of Environment Protection Authority Victoria is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Lee Miezis as the next Chief Executive Officer of EPA.

Mr Miezis joined EPA in February this year as the interim CEO and has played a critical role in driving the organisation forward as it prepares for new laws commencing July 1, 2021.

The Chair of the EPA Governing Board, Professor Kate Auty said the appointment is the beginning of an exciting chapter in the EPA’s 50-year history.

“The board and I look forward to continuing to work with Lee. We have every confidence that he has the vision and drive to deliver EPA’s transformation and to take us to great heights.”

Mr Miezis was the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Bushfire Recovery Victoria and former Deputy Secretary at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). He possesses experience and leadership that will continue to be invaluable to the Board, EPA’S Executive Leadership Team and the entire organisation.

QUOTES FROM ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AUTHORITY VICTORIA (EPA) CEO LEE MIEZIS

I am delighted to have been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the EPA at this very exciting time for the Authority. As we look toward the introduction of new legislation that will change the very way we operate, this is an incredible opportunity for us to better protect Victorians and the environment.

In my short time with the organisation, I have been impressed by the commitment, cooperation and ‘can do’ attitude from staff. These qualities will contribute to our successful transformation into a stronger regulator that can operate with power of law enforcement.

I am excited to lead the EPA as we work with the Victorian Government, our key stakeholders and most importantly the community, to protect the health of Victorians and the environment.

I thank the Governing Board of Environment Protection Authority Victoria for their trust in me to lead this important organisation at this time, and I look forward to making a real impact on the health of Victoria’s environment.
