Townsville Correctional Centre welcomed 18 new custodial correctional officers to the front line of public safety after graduating at a ceremony held in Townsville today.
The officers proudly accepted their responsibility in a ceremony at the Townsville Correctional Centre and committed their intentions to keep the community safe through the humane containment and rehabilitation of prisoners.
General Manager Peter Hall was pleased to be on hand to welcome the new custodial correctional officers.
“Community safety is important to Townsville and I thank all Corrective Service Officers, including the graduate class, for their commitment and hard work carried out to ensure the safety and security of the centre and the community. Queensland Corrective Services plays a vital role in keeping the public safe.”
“Furthermore, community safety is a priority for the Government as this year’s budget reflects and this budget is also about delivering jobs in the local community. “
“The graduating officers completed the rigorous Custodial Officer Entry Program, a top tier public safety agency training program delivered locally, which focuses on best-practice approaches, including correctional centre practices, behaviour management. The course content places great emphasis on safety including situational awareness and communication, and de-escalation techniques.” Mr Hall said.
“These officers will be meeting the high standards expected of all officers within Queensland Corrective Services as they continue to develop their skills and I am proud to welcome them all as Custodial Corrections Officers to the QCS and to the Townsville Correctional Centre. I am confident about their ability to meet whatever challenges lie ahead and I wish them all the best with their careers”
