Fifty-one correctional officers who joined NT Correctional Services over the past month have been sworn-in at ceremonies in Alice Springs and Darwin.
After completing 11 weeks of training, 14 officers were sworn in at the Alice Springs Correctional Centre last Thursday, with 16 graduating at the Darwin Correctional Centre on Friday.
These new recruits are in addition to 21 experienced correctional officers who joined NTCS in March, taking the total to 51 officers employed in the past month.
The 30 trainee officers will now go on to complete 12 months of workplace training to achieve their Certificate III in Correctional Practice.
Correctional officers are an integral part of the Territory’s justice system, helping to keep Territorians safe by working with communities, Elders, and experts to rehabilitate offenders through education, training and programs.
These additional correctional officers will be deployed across correctional centres to ensure the safety, security and supervision of prisoners.
Correctional officers are part of the NT Correctional Services workforce, which employs over 1000 people who work together to achieve better outcomes for prisoners and the community.
NTCS continues to recruit for more correctional officers.
