New Council road funding a good move for recovery

The Australian Automobile Association strongly supports moves by all levels of government to bring forward ‘shovel ready’ road works and transport infrastructure projects during the COVID19 pandemic. Making our roads safer while securing jobs across Australia is a priority for all road-users and their families, especially at these difficult times.

The AAA welcomes this month’s funding injection by the federal government to create a new $500 million Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program. The new funding, which will flow from 1st July, is in addition to bringing forward $1.3 billion in grants for local governments under the Financial Assistance Grants program.

Under the new program, your local Council will be able to select and prioritise eligible projects. Details on the new program along with the amount of funding available to your Council from the new Program can be found here:
