New Croydon Childcare Centre open

Better childcare has been delivered to residents of Croydon, following the construction and fit-out of the new St Joseph’s Maronite Church childcare centre in Sydney’s inner-west.

Federal Member for Reid Fiona Martin, who attended today’s opening, said St Joseph’s could provide childcare spaces for up to 56 local children.

“The new centre boasts a 130-square-metre outdoor kids’ play area as well as three indoor play areas,” Dr Martin said.

“It also contains a kitchen, laundry, staff room, administration area and about 2,300 square metres of car parking space.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the new facility would boost the local economy and benefit people in need.

“The project supported the employment of around 170 people during construction and will create about 30 ongoing jobs,” Mr McCormack said.

“It will also enable St Joseph’s to continue its broader community work with disadvantaged youth, the elderly and homeless people.”

The project was jointly funded with the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government contributing $2.5 million and the Trustees of the Roman Catholic Church for the Diocese of Saint Maron $3.5 million.
