Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to unveil the new digital Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame display, now located at the Shepparton Sports Stadium.
The interactive display replaces the former wall of inductees at Riverlinks, helping preserve the history of the Sports Hall of Fame while making it easier for residents and visitors to learn about local sporting achievements.
Today, Mayor, Cr Shane Sali, joined members of the Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame Advisory Committee to officially unveil the display, which celebrates local athletes who have reached the highest levels of their chosen sport.
“The new Hall of Fame display will provide greater visibility and accessibility for residents and visitors to learn about the inspiring stories of local sportspeople who have gone on to represent our region, state and nation across a wide range of sports,” Cr Sali said.
“The new technology and location at the Shepparton Sports Stadium will ensure the legacy of these athletes is preserved and celebrated for generations to come.”
The Sports Hall of Fame display features a 43-inch interactive touchscreen, allowing users to browse inductee profiles, learn about their achievements and view footage from previous induction ceremonies.
Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame Advisory Committee Chair & Councillor Representative, Cr Anthony Brophy, encouraged community members to visit the display.
“The next time you’re at Shepparton Sports City or the stadium, take the opportunity to explore the display and discover the remarkable achievements of local athletes,” Cr Brophy said.
“Thank you to the Advisory Committee members who have shaped this project and continue to help recognise sporting achievement across Greater Shepparton.”
Established in 2017, the Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame aims to preserve, celebrate and showcase the history and heritage of sporting excellence and achievement within the municipality.
To be considered for induction into the Hall of Fame, nominees must have made a significant contribution to their sport at a national representative level. Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies are held every four years, with the most recent ceremony welcoming 11 new inductees.
Cr Sali encouraged residents to reflect on local sporting identities who may be deserving of recognition.
“With the Commonwealth Games currently underway and Australians cheering on our athletes in green and gold, it’s a great time to reflect on the outstanding sporting talent that has come from Greater Shepparton,” Cr Sali said.
“If you know a local sporting identity who has achieved excellence and deserves recognition, I encourage you to submit a nomination for the Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame.”
