New, free live music event Global Rhythms is coming to Prahran Square

New, free live music event Global Rhythms brings some of the nation’s hottest artists to the recently opened Prahran Square

A new one-day music event is coming to Prahran Square in March, featuring a line-up of diverse contemporary music artists and beat-makers fresh from the summer music festival circuit. With live music, DJs and unique eats on offer from businesses in and around the Square, the inaugural free Global Rhythms event will further cement Prahran Square as a premier cultural and recreational destination within the City of Stonnington.

City of Stonnington Mayor Cr Steve Stefanopoulos said the first annual Global Rhythms concert is an exciting addition to the Stonnington events calendar, providing a perfect example of the cultural vibrancy and community inclusiveness of Prahran Square.

“I’m delighted to invite you to enjoy the first Global Rhythms concert in Prahran Square,” Mayor Stefanopoulos said. “It is exciting to see free events like this on the calendar for Prahran Square, as it is fast becoming an iconic cultural destination. Come along, grab something to eat from our amazing local restaurants and cafes, and enjoy the show”.

Attendees at Global Rhythms will see multi-disciplinary performer and vocal powerhouse Kira Puru bringing style, swagger and alt-pop perfection to the stage. Since bursting onto the Australian music scene Kira has worked with artists including Paul Kelly, Urthboy and Illy, and has released hit singles including ‘Molotov’, a floor-filling track that landed #75 on the triple j Hottest 100 of 2018 and amassed over 3 million streams.

Also taking to Prahran Square for Global Rhythms will be REMI, a hip hop dynamo named by Billboard US as ‘…one of Australia’s hottest properties right now’. Regularly selling out headline tours across Australia and Europe, REMI shines with an electric stage presence, effortless vocal flow and infectious beats you can’t help but move to. REMI has performed at festivals including Falls Festival, Splendour in the Grass and Beyond the Valley, and has shared the stage with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, De La Soul and Joey Bada$$.

Support will come from the boundary-pushing, ‘powerful priestess of the feminine’ ALPHAMAMA, a hip hop game-changer who has worked alongside icons including Salt-N-Pepa, Thundamentals and Jessica Mauboy. Melbourne DJ Soju Gang will keep the party vibes pumping through Prahran Square with her unique style and versatile set list, bound to have everyone in the groove.

Concert-goers can fuel their funky moves before and after the show at the multitude of first-rate eateries that surround Prahran Square.
