New guide to finding Tasmania’s best seasonal produce

Guy Barnett,Minister for Primary Industries and Water

Tasmania has some of the best and freshest seasonal produce and finding it’s now easier than ever.

A new 2021-22 edition of the Tasmanian Seasonal Produce Guide prepared by Fruit Growers Tasmania is connecting consumers with growers and helping them find and experience local fruit farms and businesses.

People travelling around Tasmania can use the new Guide to find and source some of our world-class apples, pears, cherries, berries and stonefruit from producers in growing districts across the State.

In addition to fruit, the new Guide also showcases cider makers, honey, and other producers across Tasmania who open direct to the public.

Launched today at The Berry Patch at Turner’s Beach, the new Guide will also help consumers find the best seasonal produce for the coming festive season.

The Tasmanian Government is a proud supporter of our fruit industry, which is an important part of our target to sustainably grow the annual farm gate value of agriculture to $10 billion by 2050.

Like many agricultural sectors, the Tasmanian fruit sector is showing strong growth. Tasmania’s recent 2019-2020 Agri-Food Scorecard showed that the total farm gate value of fruit increased by 22.1% to $281 million in 2019-20.

This comes as the gross farm gate value of agricultural production in Tasmania has exceeded $2 billion for the first time, growing by 13 per cent to $2.15 billion.
