City of Logan Mayor Darren Power has officially opened a new headquarters for the Logan West SES Group.

It replaces a shed which had been used by the group since the 1980s and is now too small for today’s operations.

The $450,000 facility at Park Ridge was fully funded by Council and will house operational equipment and evacuation kits.

It can also serve as an alternative headquarters for Logan SES should the Daisy Hill headquarters become unusable.

Cr Power said Council and the SES have a long history of keeping the community safe in emergencies.

“Logan residents know how important the men and women in orange are when disaster strikes,” Cr Power said.

“That’s why they need a base that allows them to train and keep their equipment in top condition.

“With the number of SES volunteers, increasing Council has stepped in to make sure that Logan West SES is equipped to deal with future events.”

There are five other SES depots in Logan including Logan Central, Daisy Hill, Logan Village, Beenleigh and Jimboomba.

Logan West Group provides immediate response to storm-damaged properties in suburbs including Boronia Heights, Browns Plains, Forestdale, Greenbank, Heritage Park, Hillcrest, Lyons, Munruben, New Beith, Park Ridge, Park Ridge South, Regents Park and Silverback Ridge.
