New Kiara College a step closer to reality with construction starting on upgrade

  • Kiara College to benefit from $20.7 million upgrade and land package
  • Works have now started, creating local jobs during construction
  • Western Australian company EMCO Building has started construction on the Kiara College upgrade.

The $20.7 million project includes 12 hectares of land being transferred to the college for its farm program and the college receiving new facilities, alterations and refurbishments.

The upgrades include a new performing arts centre and covered outdoor playing courts to enhance the college’s specialist basketball program.

In addition to the new facilities, the college will also receive alterations and refurbishments to the existing medical centre, physical education staff room, home economics studios and improvement of the acoustics in the existing music rooms.

There will also be upgrades to the external facades of some buildings to refresh the overall look of the college. An onsite car park is included in the works and will provide an additional 23 car spaces.

Construction is scheduled to finish by September 2021.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“I am thrilled to see the project, which was an election commitment, underway and a step closer to being able to provide the community with a contemporary learning environment.

“The college was consulted in the design and planning process to ensure the money that was committed was used in the areas that would best serve the school’s students and staff.

“I am also pleased to see a local company in EMCO involved to construct what looks to be an impressive new build.”

As stated by Bassendean MLA Dave Kelly:

“Kiara College is a great local school and I’m glad to see construction begin on this important election commitment.

“These upgrades will help the school to improve their already exceptional performing arts and basketball programs as well as improve the learning environment for all students.

“Along with the recent transfer of 12ha of land to the farm school program, this election commitment will further strengthen the great education Kiara College delivers.”
