The new measures will support public interest journalism across Australia, including journalism produced by smaller and regional publishers.
The News Bargaining Incentive and News Journalism Payments scheme encourage digital platforms with significant social media or search services to reach commercial agreements with Australian news businesses for the news content they use.
If platforms choose not to, funds collected through the scheme will be returned to the news media sector through the News Journalism Payments.
