New NT Police recruits begin training

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is focused on recruiting and retaining more Policing staff.

This week a new recruit squad of 35 new constables have begun their training with NT Police.

This year, the Police frontline has been boosted, with 107 new constables and 68 new auxiliaries.

The Territory Government supports our frontline officers and this week in Parliament, NT Police will receive more powers to request the ID of any person drinking in public.

Other changes to the Police Administration Act to support police include increasing the age of retirement from 65 to 67 and allowing officers to be recruited at rank.

These changes will allow NT Police to keep and attract experienced police officers.

Quotes Attributable to Minister for Police Brent Potter:

“Thank you to the new recruits who have begun their training for choosing to serve and protect Territorians.

“I have been on the frontline with our police and listened to their feedback. I know the changes we are making in Parliament this week will make the jobs of our current frontline members – and the new recruits – easier and allow them to better protect the community.

“The Territory Labor Government supports our police and I will continue to work with them to keep Territorians safe. We are recruiting more police than we are losing.”
