New objectives for life sciences in the Swedish government’s strategy

The Swedish government has presented an updated strategy for life science with the aim of making Sweden a leading nation in the field. Annika Östman Wernerson, President of KI, has been a member of the advisory group behind the strategy.

“The strategy gives academia, healthcare and industry a joint vision of what Sweden needs to do to remain a leader in life science. This is a very good basis for success. Now we need to step up the pace and implement the strategy with joint efforts. Karolinska Institutet wants to be a driving force in this work,” says Annika Östman Wernerson.

  • Responsible, safe and ethical policy development, including the development of precision medicine
  • Integration of research and innovation in healthcare
  • Research, innovation and research infrastructure
  • Supply of skills
  • International attractiveness and competitiveness

” The basic science research, translational environment and skills supply that universities can contribute to the life science sector and healthcare is central, which I am pleased to see reflected in the strategy,” says Annika Östman Wernerson.
