The new and improved outdoor precinct comes thanks to the Victorian Government’s COVIDSafe Outdoor Activation Fund and will create a more welcoming street for pedestrians and residents by supporting access to local businesses.
The project will see Blessington Street become home to an open-air community dining space featuring upgraded undercover dining parklets and public seating, planter boxes, festoon lighting and a shared space for pedestrians and vehicles highlighted with artwork on the road.
The new shared zone will make the street safer by reducing the amount of through traffic on residential streets, while still allowing for vehicle access for those who need it. The speed limit will be reduced to 10km/h in the shared pedestrian and vehicle zone.
In addition to new speed limit signs, drivers will be visually alerted to slow down by the road’s artwork as well as planter boxes and new public seating.
Works to install the new outdoor dining precinct will begin in late June with temporary road closures and detours in place to accommodate construction.
