A new path at Warrnambool’s foreshore will create a new walking loop while providing better access to the beach.
The 300m path will run along the south side of Worm Bay Road from the skate park to the Worm Bay car park.
The work complements a new path and beach access staircase linking the car park to the promenade and beach completed in December 2018.
Warrnambool Mayor Tony Herbert said that the path would give walkers another route to enjoy while drawing more attention to the underutilised Worm Bay car park.
“The path will create an interesting 1.5km walking loop offering views of both Lady Bay and Middle Island,” he said.
“For anyone walking or cycling down Viaduct Road, the path will also provide faster and safer access to the promenade and the beach.
“Even at the height of summer when the car parks at McGennans and the harbour precinct are at capacity, Worm Bay is usually only about half full, so this new path will help create foot traffic through the area and draw attention to another excellent parking option on our foreshore.”
The project also involves a pedestrian crossing and footpath through the centre of the Worm Bay car park as well as some vegetation removal, speed humps and fencing/curbing work near the skate park.
Construction began on June 17 and is expected to take approximately two months.
The Worm Bay car park will be closed for approximately three weeks from June 17. Access to the Lady Bay and Deep Blue resorts will be maintained at all times.
