As stated by Area Investigations Manager, Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Foster:
Police have referred the death of a person, found deceased in a fire-damaged car at Āria, Waitomo, to the Coroner.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand were alerted to a car on fire on Mokauiti Road about 6am on Sunday 16 August. On arrival, firefighters located a person deceased in the vehicle and advised Police.
