New performing arts centre at Ocean Reef Senior High School takes centre stage

  • Brand new $5 million performing arts centre officially opened at Ocean Reef Senior High School
  • An additional $5 million announced for new sports hall under the Major School Upgrades as part of the WA Recovery Plan
  • Projects will help boost the construction industry and create hundreds of local jobs
  • Premier Mark McGowan has today visited Ocean Reef Senior High School to officially open a brand new performing arts centre and reveal details of another exciting construction project at the school.

The $5 million state-of-the-art performing arts centre was completed in July this year and provides audience seating for 264 people.

Fitted out with the latest technologies, students now have more opportunities to learn skills that are required for moving straight into employment in the performing arts industry.

The school will be able to expand its popular specialist contemporary music program and students can fine-tune their performance skills by entertaining larger audiences in the brand new centre.

Ocean Reef Senior High School is also set to receive $5 million as part of the Major School Upgrade package, for a new sports hall that will be built next to the performing arts building.

This project is currently in the planning phase but will support the school to cater for growing enrolments and relieve the pressure on existing physical education facilities. The project is expected to commence in late 2021.

The unprecedented Major School Upgrade package – totalling $492.2 million – includes $319.2 million of new funding for upgrades and refurbishments at 63 public schools around the State, stimulating economic growth and supporting around 1,850 jobs.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“I am proud to officially open the magnificent performing arts centre at Ocean Reef Senior High School.

“Students will be able to fine-tune their skills with the latest technologies, in fantastic modern facilities.”

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“We’re committed to upgrading schools across Western Australia and making sure that students are receiving the best possible education and learning opportunities.

“The Ocean Reef community can also look forward to an exciting new sports hall which is currently in the planning phase.”

As stated by Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton:

“I’m so pleased we’ve been able to deliver this terrific new facility for the students and families of Ocean Reef.

“Every student deserves access to a great local school and that’s why the McGowan Government is investing significantly to ensure our kids benefit from a high quality education.”
