New pilot program provides remote international students with industry experience

Austrade

As COVID-19 continues to disrupt international education, our Austrade International Education team have been working on how best to support our international students, in partnership with Practera.

One exciting development has been around the Study Australia Industry Experience Projects (SAIEP) pilot program. Launching in July, it is designed for offshore students who are currently studying online in-market — due to travel restrictions.

The program puts international and domestic students into teams to deliver projects based on real-life industry work challenges and opportunities. Building peer connections, it helps creates a sense of belonging for international students, within both the broader Australian community and international networks of employers.

The initiative began by focussing on students from India, based on experiences of dissatisfaction in the shift to studying online, this program aims to introduce interactive classes and real world challenges. All international students will then be encouraged to participate, in partnership with associated Australian higher education providers.

SAIEP also supports Austrade’s promotion of Australia’s employability programs and opportunities to prospective students, agents, sponsors, and influencers.

The program will be launched later this month with more information to follow.
