New above-ground public toilets will be built in the heart
of central Geelong.
The City is progressing plans for modern, safe and secure
toilet block on the corner of Moorabool and Malop streets.
The complex will include two gender-neutral cubicles and a
Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)-compliant toilet cubicle.
Designs for the project, which has been allocated $460,000
in the Council’s 2019-20 Budget, will be finalised within weeks.
The City expects them to be open to the public by July.
The new facilities will be sited on the western side of
Moorabool Street.
They will replace the existing underground male and female
toilets, which are on opposing sides of the road.
The City has today permanently closed both aged toilet
blocks, which have been ruled unsafe and in poor condition due to ongoing
vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
The future above-ground facilities will provide easier,
quicker and safer access for the community.
The City has engaged with nearby businesses, who are
supportive of the project.
In the meantime, other public toilets are available at the
Civic Centre Car Park, the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre, Busport,
Transvaal Square, Little Ryrie Street and the Waterfront.
Shopping centre customers can also access toilets in Market
Square and Westfield Geelong (which includes a Changing Places facility).

access to a high-quality network of public toilet facilities. Above-ground toilets are safer
and more inviting for users and will be much easier for our employees to
maintain. This upgrade will provide
visitors to our city centre with modern, clean and universally accessible
amenities.
