New public toilets on way to Dening Park

Grassy location next to beach where toilets will go

Work will start on new public toilets at Byron Bay’s Dening Park in late April.

The toilets are the latest improvement to public facilities in Byron Bay in recent years.

Dening Park, with its easy access to the beach, is one of Byron Bay’s most popular parks.

The toilets will be built near the children’s playground.

Danielle Hanigan, Acting Director Infrastructure Services, said five unisex toilets will be built and they will be fully compliant with Australian guidelines for accessibility.

“This means they will be able to be used by everyone in our community,” Ms Hanigan said.

“There are a lack of public amenities in this area and we were pleased to receive a grant from the NSW Government so we can better service our community and visitors,” she said.

The exterior of the toilets will be clad in Cor-ten panels designed by Nickolla Clark, a local Arakwal artist.

The budget for the project is $520,000 which includes $435,000 granted from the NSW Government.

All going well the new facilities will be open in early August.

Information about the Dening Park toilet project is on Council’s website.
