New quarantine arrangements under WA’s controlled border

  • Quarantine changes for double dose vaccinated travellers who test negative to COVID-19
  • Travellers to move from hotel quarantine to self-quarantine at a suitable premise on day eight to complete the final seven days of quarantine
  • Subject to additional PCR testing and G2G Now monitoring
  • Double dose vaccinated travellers who test negative for COVID-19 in hotel quarantine will be able to move to self-quarantine on day eight to complete their 14-days quarantine under new measures to begin today.

These travellers must record negative PCR results from tests on day one and six in hotel quarantine and be able to complete the remainder of their 14-days of quarantine in self-quarantine at a suitable premise.

From day eight, once in self-quarantine travellers must do a PCR test on days nine and 12, and all members of their household, if any, will also be required to do a PCR test on the traveller’s day 12.

However, if the traveller returns a positive PCR result on day nine, members of their household, if any, will also be required to do a PCR test on day 10.

All tests will be undertaken by WA Health using mobile testing at self-quarantine premises.

All members of the household must self-quarantine and use G2G Now monitoring until the traveller’s 14-day quarantine period is completed.

Travellers will only be able to finish self-quarantine on day 14 if they and members of their household, if any, return a negative PCR test result on day 12.

These new quarantine arrangements will apply to international arrivals and domestic travellers from ‘extreme’ risk jurisdictions.

These measures are based on health advice and will be reviewed regularly to reduce pressure and the risk in the State’s hotel quarantine system and protect the Western Australian community.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“Until the Commonwealth’s quarantine facility is finished we need to ensure our State’s hotel quarantine system can operate as safe as possible in the world of Omicron.

“These changes are based on expert health advice, considering people become positive with Omicron earlier than with other strains of the virus.

“Our health advice is clear that this adjustment is safe and will reduce the risk of Omicron spreading in hotel facilities, as we can ensure safer room allocations are in place.”

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“The Chief Health Officer has recommended these new quarantine arrangements to ensure our hotel quarantine system isn’t overburdened by the Omicron strain.

“This cautious step will allow double dose vaccinated travellers who present a very low risk to finish up their quarantine in self-isolation.

“All double dose vaccinated travellers who test negative on days one and six and have suitable premises to quarantine will also be required to undergo PCR tests and G2G Now monitoring.”
