The Albanese Labor Government will open a specialised Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain GP Clinic in Rouse Hill in Western Sydney, providing women with expert, multidisciplinary care and a one-stop option for diagnosis, intervention, and treatment.
This will bring the total number of Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinics to 22 across Australia as part of the Government’s $58.3 million package for endometriosis and pelvic pain.
The Rouse Hill clinic will be the third Clinic in Sydney, with others in Hunter’s Hill and Leichhardt. Each clinic is based in an existing GP practice with experience and expertise in women’s health, endometriosis and pain management. The new clinic will be based in the Rouse Hill Town Medical and Dental Centre.
Endometriosis affects at least 1 in 9 Australian women and can have a devastating impact on the daily lives of those with the condition. Research has also shown that 1 in 2 Australian women experience pelvic pain and half of those women do not discuss their symptoms with a doctor despite significant impacts on work or study. The impact of pelvic pain is felt beyond individuals as it is estimated to cost the Australian economy almost $10 billion a year.
Rouse Hill Town Medical and Dental Centre will receive funding of $700,000 over four years to operate the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain GP Clinic. The Centre has
12 female GPs and four GPs with a speciality interest in women’s health. It also has a women’s health nurse, a dietician and a physiotherapist, as well as hospital-grade treatment rooms, pathology and diagnostic imaging.
The specialised GP clinics will reduce delays and promote early access to intervention, care and treatment. They will also raise awareness of endometriosis, build professional knowledge and skills to manage the condition, and improve access to information and care pathways.
