The Browns Plains waste and recycling facility which is among five similar facilities in the City of Logan that will be closed from tomorrow (April 1) except for essential waste vehicles.

Waste and recycling facilities operated by Logan City Council will be closed to the public from 7am tomorrow (Wednesday, April 1).

Only essential waste vehicles will be given access to the facilities.

Essential waste vehicles include Council’s contractor-operated waste collection trucks, Council vehicles, commercial waste contractors and waste from businesses.

The new rules will have no impact on Council’s existing household and commercial waste and recycling bin collection services which will continue as usual.

The temporary closures are in line with Council’s top priority of protecting the health and well-being of the community, our customers and our staff.

They also support the stay home, stay safe message from governments and health authorities.

The decision to close the waste and recycling facilities was not taken lightly.

It needed to be made following a period of above-average patronage at our facilities with some members of the public not adhering to the Federal Government’s latest guidelines on social distancing.

The waste and recycling facilities impacted are:

  • Browns Plains
  • Beenleigh
  • Carbrook
  • Greenbank
  • Logan Village

The Beenleigh Waste & Recycling Facility does not ordinarily accept commercial waste from trade and businesses and will be temporarily closed with no access to customers.

The Logan Recycling Market at Heritage Park was closed on March 20 and also remains shut until further notice.

During the temporary closure, domestic waste vouchers will not be accepted as a form of payment. Commercial fees will apply to all customers.

Residents may engage a waste collection or skip bin service from a commercial service provider to dispose of additional waste while the temporary closures are in place.

With many now working from home, residents are also reminded to ensure bins presented on the footpath for collection are not blocked by parked vehicles.

The public is also reminded that hefty fines can be enforced for illegal dumping.

Council is also looking to ensure that the number of people attending the City Administration Building, in Wembley Road, Logan Central, is compliant with the latest Federal Government rules on mass gatherings and social distancing.

From tomorrow (Wednesday, April 1) customers wishing to access the Customer Service Centre will be required to make an appointment. Please call 3412 3412 to do this.

The Beenleigh and Jimboomba customer service centres are now closed until further notice.
