New scholarships to boost Aboriginal workforce

NT Health is about to open a new scholarship offer as part of its efforts to build its Aboriginal health workforce.

As part of the initiative, five scholarships will be made available to support Aboriginal Territorians studying in a range health-related disciplines.

The scholarships are for Aboriginal students wanting to work in the following occupations:

  • Registered Nurse
  • Pharmacist
  • Registered Midwife
  • Speech Pathologist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Audiologist
  • Public Health Nutritionist / Dietitian
  • Psychologist
  • Social Worker
  • Environmental Health Officer
  • Physiotherapist
  • Prosthetist / Orthotist
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • Podiatrist
  • Medical Radiation Practitioner
  • Sonographer
  • Dentist
  • Radiographer
  • Dental Therapist

The department also welcomes applications from students aiming to work in the field of mental health as a health professional.

Recipients will need to be in their first year of undergraduate studies in a health-related field.

The scholarships are worth $5000, which will be paid in two instalments of $2500 at the end of each semester, subject to completion of four units.

Scholarship recipients will also have an opportunity to undertake four weeks of vacation employment with NT Health.

In cases where a course is not available in the Northern Territory, Territorians studying interstate will become eligible for a scholarship

Applications open on Monday 2 March 2020 and close 4pm Monday 30 March 2020.
