The Tasmanian Government is continuing to deliver our commitment to increase the supply of social and affordable housing in Tasmania, with work nearly complete on 12 new two-bedroom homes in Latrobe.
The homes are being constructed by Tasmanian company Collins Building Contractors and were designed by Tasmanian architects Starbox, supporting local jobs in the North West.
The units will be completed in early February and will be allocated to those most in need from Tasmania’s housing register. Each unit includes:
– carport and storage
– separate laundry
– open plan living, kitchen and dining
– accessible bathrooms designed to silver level LHA (Liveable Housing Australia) guidelines
– 6-Star thermal benchmarks (high energy efficiency and high thermal performance)
– double glazing
– highly efficient heat pumps
– designs for people to ‘age in place’.
The $2.5 million project is part of a comprehensive approach by the Tasmanian Government to addressing housing stress through Tasmania’s Affordable Housing Strategy 2015 2025, two Affordable Housing Action Plans, and our landmark $100 million commitment to deliver up to 1000 new social houses homes over three years, with an EOI currently underway.
We know there is more to do, which is why the 2020-21 State Budget includes $300 million to deliver new housing and homelessness initiatives while creating jobs, growing our economy, and strengthening our communities in every region.
