NGOs welcome Australian Government initiative to strengthen Indo-Pacific development finance ecosystem

The Indo-Pacific NGO Blended Finance Accelerator will significantly increase the scale and impact of initiatives that promote gender equality and climate resilience across Asia and the Pacific.

The initiative has been welcomed by Save the Children Australia and other leading non-government organisations including the Australian Council for International Development, The Fred Hollows Foundation, Caritas, Plan International Australia, Opportunity International Australia, World Wide Fund for Nature – Australia, ChildFund Australia, WaterAid, Oxfam, MSI Asia Pacific, Good Return, Habitat for Humanity Australia and CARE International.

Many of these organisations have already undertaken initiatives in the innovative finance space and have been working with the Government to find ways to remove barriers to deeper engagement, including Save the Children’s own pioneering work through its Impact Investment Fund.

Save the Children Australia CEO Mat Tinkler said:

“NGOs, including Save the Children, already play an important role in the development finance sector but this new initiative will enable us to really leverage our expertise, networks, and credibility to bridge the gap between acquiring private capital and achieving development outcomes, particularly for children and their communities experiencing the impacts of the climate crisis and gender inequality,” he said.
