No More Dreaded Double Bond

VIC Premier

Moving house is stressful enough without having to save thousands for a second bond.

That’s why Labor is introducing Australia’s first portable bond scheme from 1 July.

The new Portable Rental Bond Scheme will mean Victorian renters can move their existing bond to a new property.

It means renters aren’t out of pocket while waiting for a refund.

From 1 July, renters can apply to transfer their bonds online through the residential tenancies bonds system.

It’s the latest of more than 150 renters’ reforms Labor has delivered.

The reforms include banning rental bidding and no-fault evictions, minimum rental standards and standard application forms.

From October, rental providers will also be required to provide evidence before making any claim on a bond.

Jess Wilson’s Liberals opposed Labor’s rental reforms.

With $40 billion in cuts on the table the Liberals will gut Consumer Affairs Victoria which is out in the community protecting renters.

Only Labor has new solutions to make life easier, fairer and more affordable.

As stated by Minister for Renters Paul Edbrooke

“Moving house shouldn’t mean paying two bonds at once from July 1, it won’t.”

“Victorian renters deserve fairness and security only Labor is delivering it.”

“The Liberals have voted against our reforms to make renting fairer. Only Labor will continue to back renters.”
