No need for speed

The Air Wing assisted in the arrest of two speeding drivers in Little River and Altona North last night.

Around 11.03pm, the Air Wing observed a Ford Falcon ute allegedly travelling at speeds of up to 190 km/h in a 100 km/h speed zone along Princes Freeway in Little River.

Police intercepted the vehicle when it pulled over at a service station in Werribee a short time later.

A preliminary breath test was conducted on the driver, and he returned a positive reading.

The man was taken to a nearby police station where he returned an evidentiary breath test of .100.

His vehicle will also be impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1305.

The 21-year-old Whittington man has been charged with traffic offences and drug possession.

He was bailed to appear before Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 24 October.

The Air Wing also observed a motorcycle allegedly travelling at 180 km/h in a 100 km/h speed zone on the Westgate Freeway in Altona North around 11.06pm.

The motorcycle was followed to an address in Altona North, where the rider was arrested.

The 41-year-old Altona Meadows man will be summonsed to attend court at a later date.

His motorcycle will also be impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1305.

These impounds were part of Operation Compass, the state-wide road policing operation during the high-risk Anzac long weekend.

Police are targeting impaired driving, speed, distraction, and fatigue in high-risk areas throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Operation Compass concludes at 11.59pm on Monday, 25 April.
