Responding to the news that Israel has cleared soldiers over criminal wrongdoing in the murder of Zomi Frankcom and her World Central Kitchen colleagues, the Greens have called for the Israeli ambassador to be expelled.
As stated by Senator Faruqi, Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens and spokesperson for International Aid & Global Justice:
“Of course I am angry and devastated, but there are no surprises here. This is how the apartheid, genocidal state of Israel works. This is a state that routinely commits war crimes with no consequences.
“Zomi and six of her colleagues were systematically hunted and murdered by the Israel Army. This was without a doubt a war crime.
“Israel was never going to hold their forces to account for the murder of Zomi Frankom. This is what we warned the Albanese Government about from the beginning, and it was their responsibility to force accountability and justice for Zomi. They have completely failed in their duty.
“Prime Minister Albanese should be ashamed and take full responsibility. Australians expect their governments to fight for justice.
“Senator Wong can be as outraged as she wants now, but words don’t cut it. In her meeting with the Israeli Ambassador, she should be telling him to pack his bags and expel him.
“Israel is taking no action because they know there will be no consequences. In 2025 alone, almost 200 aid workers were killed in Gaza, and Palestinians are killed everyday despite a so-called ‘ceasefire’.
“The Foreign Minister’s ‘outrage’ is meaningless when this government continues to call Israel a friend, continues weapons exports to the Israeli military, and refuses to take any action to end or even recognise the genocide.
“This government has failed Zomi Frankcom and aid workers, whose lives represent the very best of us: courage, compassion, and a commitment to humanity in the face of unimaginable suffering.”
