Detectives from the Organised Crime Gangs Group have charged two men with six offences following an investigation into multiple violent assaults on the Gold Coast on July 3.
At approximately 7.30am August 3, a 30-year-old Palm Beach man who is an associate of the Nomads OMCG was arrested following the execution of a search warrant at Norris St residence. At approximately 9.00am, a 31-year-old Mudgeeraba man who is member of the Nomads OMCG was also arrested following the execution of a search warrant at a Ninnes Ct residence.
Both men were charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and affray and four counts of assault. The pair are due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on August 4.
The men were arrested following an ongoing investigation into an alleged series of violent assaults that occurred on July 3 between 11.00pm and 11.30pm near a Burleigh Heads licensed premises.
Investigations to date have led detectives to identify seven assault incidents on July 3 allegedly involving the men. Detectives will allege the men assaulted a women inside a Burleigh Heads licensed premises before leaving and punching several people outside the venue on the Gold Coast Highway. It will be alleged the men were not known to the victims.
Two victims sought medical attention for head injuries.
Detective Acting Superintendent Craig McGrath said detectives from Organised Crime Gangs Group, including Taskforce Maxima, who are permanently based on the Gold Coast are continuing to work with district police to keep the community safe.
“Through a range of capabilities including ongoing patrols, tactical action and intelligence gathering, police are continuing to take a zero-tolerance approach against the violence and criminality of outlaw motorcycle gangs and their disregard for public safety.
“OMCGs are not welcome on the Gold Coast or anywhere in Queensland and as these arrests show, police will act swiftly to detect, disrupt and investigate crimes and prosecute offenders who cause harm to our community,” Detective Acting Superintendent McGrath said.
Police are continuing to investigate if there were more incidents and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assaults near the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh Heads on July 3 who have not yet spoken to police, or has information in relation to this investigation to contact police.
