The inaugural Whittlesea Community Awards are now open for nominations.
The awards, which replace the Australia Day Awards, provide an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of people in the City of Whittlesea.
There are five categories, including: Citizen of the Year (open to all ages), Young Citizen of the Year (open to those between 14 and 25 years), Senior Citizen of the Year (open to those 60 years or over), Access and Inclusion Citizen of the Year (open to all ages) and Sustainable Environment Citizen or Group of the Year (open to all ages).
City of Whittlesea Administrator Peita Duncan is a member of the Whittlesea Community Awards Committee and said the Committee will assess nominations based on how they demonstrated values that reflect the City of Whittlesea’s vision of being ‘A Place for All’.
“For our Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Senior Citizen of the Year awards the Committee will also be considering how the nominees have been a positive role model for others, demonstrated leadership and vision for the future of the community and promoted community connectedness,” Ms Duncan said.
The Access and Inclusion Citizen of the Year award will be presented to an individual who has gone above-and-beyond to improve participation opportunities for people who might be restricted due to physical, social or other challenges.
The Sustainable Environment Citizen or Group of the Year will be awarded to an individual or group that has actively responded to and engaged others in an environmental issue impacting the City of Whittlesea.
Nominations for the Whittlesea Community Awards will be open until 1 October 2021 with the awards to be presented in late October.
“I really encourage you to take the time to nominate the local heroes who are making a positive difference to our community,” Ms Duncan added.
