A police officer has been injured following a vehicle stop in Sydney’s south-west this morning.
About 1.15pm today (Friday 24 July 2026), officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command were conducting high visibility patrols on Strait Street, South Granville, when they stopped a hatchback for a random breath test.
The vehicle stopped in Ferndell Street, before officers approached the vehicle.
The driver – a 27-year-old woman and her passenger – a 27-year-old man – were asked to exit the vehicle for the purposes of a search, before the man allegedly ran, got into the driver seat of the vehicle and attempted to drive off.
Police attempted to pull the man out of the vehicle, before he allegedly drove from the scene, dragging a female officer a short distance.
The 24-year-old female Constable was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious leg injuries and taken to hospital for further treatment.
The 27-year-old driver was arrested and has been taken to Granville Police Station where she was charged with hinder investigation serious indictable offence of other.
She was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 24 July 2026).
Following extensive inquiries, about 8.50am police located the man in Rose Street, Yagoona, and placed himunder arrest.
The man was taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with two counts of hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, cause grievous bodily harm to police officer on duty reckless as to actual bodily harm, drive motor vehicle during disqualification.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 9 tomorrow (Saturday 25 July 2026).
