The Australian Government is providing $320,000 to improve riverside habitat in North West Tasmania.
The project will be led by the Waratah-Wynyard Council in partnership with Wynyard Landcare and Landcare Tasmania.
The project will:
- remove invasive weeds
- plant native trees and shrubs
- monitor wildlife
- hold community planting days
- improve paths and other public infrastructure.
Work will take place at:
- Frenchs Road Nature Reserve
- Inglis River Riparian Reserve
- Camp Creek Riparian Reserve
- Ballad Avenue Environment Reserve.
These reserves are home to iconic native animals, including the:
- threatened Tasmanian devil
- azure kingfisher
- eastern barred bandicoot.
Some parts of the reserves have been damaged by weeds, erosion and past land use. The project will help restore these areas and improve the health of local waterways.
Funding is provided through the Australian Government’s Local Environmental Projects Program. The program supports local projects that protect and improve the environment.
