The Australian Government will nominate Rob Nicholl for appointment as the Executive Director at the World Bank Group, Nghi Luu as the Alternate Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund and Natalie Horvat as Alternate Director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

These nominations are all about ensuring Australia is well‑represented at the world’s leading economic institutions.

Mr Nicholl, Ms Luu and Ms Horvat are outstanding nominations and I have every confidence that they’ll do Australia proud in their new roles.

Mr Nicholl is currently an Executive Director at the IMF. He has extensive public and financial policy experience, having served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Office of Financial Management and in a number of senior executive appointments in the Tasmanian Treasury and Tasmanian Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources. We’re nominating Mr Nicholl for a two‑year period starting in November 2024.

Ms Luu is currently an Assistant Secretary in the Financial System Division of the Markets Group at Treasury. Ms Luu has a strong background in economics, the financial system and public policy. She has previously worked as a senior adviser in Australia’s IMF constituency office. The Government is nominating Ms Luu for a two‑year period starting in November 2024.

Ms Horvat is currently the First Assistant Secretary in the First Nations and Commonwealth‑State Division of the Fiscal Group at Treasury. Ms Horvat has extensive experience at senior levels of the public service, both at the Commonwealth and state level. Prior to her current role, Ms Horvat was the First Assistant Secretary in the Economic Division in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. We’re nominating Ms Horvat for a period of up to three years from January 2025.

In addition, the government is extending Katherine Tuck’s current term at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development until 31 December 2024.

I would like to sincerely thank Kerstin Wijeyewardene for her work as Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank, Katherine Tuck for her work at the EBRD and Rob Nicholl for his work as Executive Director at the IMF.

We value their contributions to these important institutions.
