North West Support School redevelopment update

Roger Jaensch, Minister for Education, Children and Youth

The Rockliff Liberal Government is investing in contemporary education facilities for Tasmanian learners.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth said the Government’s election commitment to invest in the North West Support School campuses has always remained.

“The former Penguin Primary School site became available after this commitment and we consulted widely with the school community about the option of consolidating the school on this site,” Minister Jaensch said.

“Feedback from the school community and other stakeholders has shown strong support for the Government’s existing election commitment to redevelop the Burnie and Devonport campuses.

“Based on this feedback, the Penguin option will not be considered further, and we will continue to progress our commitment to upgrade the Burnie campus and develop a new school for the Devonport campus on a new site.

“I thank everyone for their feedback during this process.

“I have listened closely and the insights gained will provide valuable contributions as we move into the next steps in the development of the Devonport and Burnie campuses.”

The Government will continue working closely with the school community as we progress our election commitment.
