Northern suburbs shooting incidents – suspect vehicle images released

Northern District detectives have arrested a sixth suspect and released images of two vehicles allegedly involved in a number of firearms incidents in the Northern suburbs last Friday.

About 5.30pm Friday 21 January police were called to a house on Wallace Road at Elizabeth Vale after nearby residents reported hearing a large altercation at the property before hearing what sounded like gunshots.

Soon after, police received reports of an altercation between occupants of a silver BMW and dark sedan travelling north on Main North Road, Elizabeth Park.

Witnesses reported seeing shots fired from both vehicles as they chased each other along Main North Road, causing the glass to smash on the rear window of one of the cars. The BMW was last seen turning onto Womma Road, the dark sedan continued north towards Gawler.

About 1.45am Saturday 22 January, police and STAR Group searched a home in Hillbank where they located and arrested a 37-year-old St Agnes man who has been charged with affray. He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

About 2am Saturday 22 January, police and STAR Group searched a home in Smithfield where they located and arrested a 48-year old man from the address. Police located a gel-blaster firearm at the house and the silver BMW. The man has been charged with possess firearm without a licence and affray. The BMW and firearm were seized for forensic examination. He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

While at the Smithfield home police received information that two more gunshots had been heard near the address around the time of the first two incidents. Police believe shots were fired in the area after the cars were seen turning off Main North Road.

About 11am on Saturday, Northern detectives searched an Elizabeth Park home where they located and seized a firearm believed to have been used in the offences.

A 37-year-old man from the address was arrested and has been charged with possess firearm without a licence, possess ammunition and fail to answer questions. He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday 24 January. The man is not believed to have been involved in the initial affray.

Later that afternoon, about 4pm, police re-attended a home in Elizabeth Vale. A 39-year-old Elizabeth Vale man was arrested and charged with affray. He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 24 January.

About 9.30pm Saturday, police re-attended a Smithfield home and arrested a 36-year-old Smithfield woman. She has been charged with affray, possess firearm without a licence, discharge a firearm and breach of bail. She was refused bail to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday 24 January.

Today, detectives arrested and charged a 17-year-old boy from Smithfield with three counts of acts to endanger life, aggravated affray, possess a firearm with a licence and discharging a firearm. He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Youth Court on Monday.

Police believe all incidents are linked and all parties are known to each other. There have been no reported injuries to members of the public. The investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators have released images of the two cars they believe were involved in the shooting incident and seek further witnesses and information from the public.

Police are appealing to anyone with dash-cam footage that may have captured the altercation or cars on Main North Road.
