NSW cutting power bills and emissions with sensible policy

Climate Council

THE CLIMATE COUNCIL has today welcomed an announcement from the New South Wales Government that will provide $128 million to households to install solar or improve energy efficiency.

Quotes attributable to spokesperson Climate Council Campaigner, Louis Brailsford:

“This sensible policy will provide practical help to households to create a sustained reduction in power bills while cutting emissions at the same time.

“The surge in gas prices this year should spur governments around the country to speed up the phase out of fossil fuels in favour of affordable renewables. Replacing inefficient gas appliances in homes with electric alternatives is one of the easiest ways to do this.

“The Climate Council has previously found that Australian homes lag behind the rest of the world when it comes to energy efficiency. Strong policies and investment to reduce energy use can substantially reduce power bills and emissions.

“The quickest and cheapest way to increase Australia’s supply of clean affordable energy is to replace fossil fuels with renewables and electrify our households and businesses.”
