NSW holding line in proportionate and targeted approach to COVID

“The NSW Government is to be congratulated for holding the line with its successful proportionate and targeted approach to dealing with COVID,” Helen Waldron, NSW Head of the peak employer association Ai Group said today.

“While other states respond with economically damaging lock-down strategies, NSW has and is achieving the same health results without the much more widespread disruption to normal economic activity.

“The NSW approach has the strong support of industry in the state and the Government is leading the way in working towards a sustainable living with COVID strategy.

“The latest Victoria lockdown is estimated to have cost that state $1.3 billion and the NSW Government can confidently claim it is successfully avoiding imposing costs of that scale on our businesses and community.

“Any approach to COVID needs to achieve the desired health outcomes with the least disruption to normal economic and social activity and we urge the Premier to hold her ground against calls for lockdowns which would damage the state’s economy and put peoples’ livelihoods at risk,” Ms Waldron said.
