A police officer has been charged with alleged child abuse and prohibited weapons related offences.
In April 2026, investigators attached to Professional Standards Command, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Cyber Crime Squad, commenced an investigation into the alleged access of child abuse material by a 22-year-old man and serving NSW police officer.
On Thursday 10 September 2026, police executed a search warrant at an address in the Sydney metropolitan area, where they allegedly located and seized digital devices, a gel blaster, butterfly knives, and ammunition.
About 10.50am today (Thursday 17 September 2026), officers arrested the 22-year-old man – a constable attached to the North West Metropolitan Region – in Macquarie Park.
He was taken to Ryde Police Station, where he was charged with:
- Use carriage service to access child abuse material
- Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
- Possess unauthorised pistol
- Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
He was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court tomorrow (Friday 18 September 2026).
His employment status is currently under review.
