NSW independent schools congratulate new Minister for education

The Association of Independent Schools of NSW congratulates The Hon Sarah Mitchell MLC on her appointment as the new NSW Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning, and as the Deputy Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council.

The NSW independent schools sector looks forward to working with Minister Mitchell on the critically important issues for independent schools, including future funding arrangements, particularly for disadvantaged students, and the wide range of broader issues impacting independent schools.
AISNSW Chief Executive, Dr Geoff Newcombe AM said, “Minister Mitchell in her previous role as the Assistant Minister for Education in the Berejiklian Government brings a wealth of experience in early childhood education issues and a strong understanding of the resources needed to establish solid literacy and numeracy proficiency in our youngest learners, to secure success throughout their schooling.
“Minister Mitchell also brings personal experience and understanding of the issues facing NSW rural and regional school education. This is a very important area of work for the independent schools sector, due to strong and increasing enrolments, as parents in these areas choose the education that best suits the needs of their children.”
AISNSW also offers thanks to the former Education Minister, The Hon Rob Stokes, for his advocacy and leadership as the NSW Education Minister, and congratulates him on his new appointment, returning to his portfolio as the Minister for Planning.
“Minister Stokes’ commitment to implementing high standards in education and his support for a NSW Curriculum Review are just two, of the many, areas where he ensured that quality teaching and learning remained a high priority in NSW.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the Berejiklian Government as we strive, along with our colleagues in the government and Catholic education sectors, to provide the highest standard of schooling possible for all NSW children,” Dr Newcombe said.
